Hardanger Filling Stitches - Yvette Stanton

€ 34,00

One of the main features of Hardanger embroidery is the openwork, and within that openwork are countless stitches that can be used to embellish and decorate. This book brings together the widest range of Hardanger fill stitches ever compiled.

It includes both traditional and modern stitches, from the very simple to the incredibly complex, all broken down into clear, step-by-step instructions with diagrams for each step.

There are color-coded left-handed (red) and right-handed (blue) instructions for each stitch. A Hardanger band sampler project contains many of the stitches. The step-by-step instructions are easy to follow, making it easy to learn. Whether you are a student who performs best by seeing (the illustrations) or reading (the words) or both, you can succeed with the instructions in this book. You learn to avoid problems and have the confidence to correct any mistakes you make. Yvette Stanton's expert instructions will get you started creating beautiful Hardanger embroidery fill stitches.

The project pictured will be a Hardanger band sampler, which will include many of the stitches demonstrated in the book. There will also be historical information on Hardanger fill stitches, including photos of historical and contemporary examples; information about materials and equipment and tips and tricks, including really important information about voltage.

English book by Yvette Stanton with only Hardanger fill stitches

Taking you back to the Norwegian fjord where it all began...

Early-style Hardanger is not often seen outside of Norway, but is quite distinct from contemporary Hardanger. This historical style of embroidery has traditionally been used on the women’s clothing in the Hardangerfjord region, and was designed to emulate needle-made lace of the 1600s and 1700s.

To research for "Early-Style Hardanger", Yvette Stanton travelled to Norway, studying historical examples of Hardanger at the Norsk Folkemuseum and the Hardanger Folkemuseum. In Bergen, she joined in the celebration of Syttende Mai (17th May) or Norwegian Constitution Day. On this occasion, many Norwegians dress in bunad, or folk costume, to enjoy the festivities. Because of this, Yvette also saw many examples of early-style Hardanger in current use on traditional-style clothing.

This book inspires you to create traditional-style Norwegian whitework embroidery, and demonstrates how to do it in bite-size portions, thereby allowing you to feel the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment of making your own beautiful embroideries.

Marietje Brouwers, born somewhere in the Netherlands in 1908, stitched a small purse with a sampler on the backside at the age of 12. “JB” and “AvG” are presumably her parents.

In 2022, I bought the framed purse at Marktplaats. Inspired by the purse, I designed a matching needle book and a scissor fob, creating a lovely sewing or embroidery set.

Namelijk:
· Een reeks motieven voor gastendoekjes en handdoeken;
· En last but not least: een hoofdstuk over Beiers bont borduren.

centimeter breed telt 57 hokjes.
Verder hebt u nodig:

This 40-page book is full of even more eye candy than "Red Letter Day," with a scrapbook-y feel and lots of photographs and art. Eight samplers are reproduced for this book, and photographs of the originals are included. This has been about a year in the making, and I thank everyone who helped -- my model stitchers, husband, friends and family. It's been a labor of love!

192 pagina's. Ruim 400 foto's, deels in kleur.
